The Niti Aayog has asserted in its Three-year Action Agenda the need to ensure availability of electricity on a 24x7 basis for all by 2019-20. It has suggested to significantly reduce the cross-subsidy in the power sector to boost the demand in the industrial sector. Further, on lower utilisation of plant load factors, the Aayog has suggested the government to ensure that new capacity augmentation beyond 2019-20 is as per demand for power and operational viability.
